Closing date for last Wilko in Gloucestershire confirmed as axe falls …

The last remaining Wilko store[1] in Gloucestershire[2] will close next month, it has been revealed. The high street retailer[3] fell into administration last month, leading to mass store closures across the UK.

Details of when certain stores would be closing have been drip fed to the public in recent weeks while administrators searched for potential buyers, with deals struck with Poundland and B&M. This included news that the Wilko shops in Stroud’s[4] Five Valleys Shopping Centre and Gloucester’s[5] Northgate Street store would shut on September 26 and 28 respectively[6].

In another update today (September 22), PwC has now confirmed when the final 111 stores run by the retailer will close. Among them is the shop in Cheltenham’s Brewery Quarter[7].

The shop will be one of dozens which will close for the final time on October 5. Others across the country will shut on October 3 and 8, marking the end of the administration period.

Despite stores closing, the retailer’s name will still have a presence to shoppers after rival chain The Range struck a deal to buy Wilko’s brand, website and intellectual property. It plans to sell the brand in its own stores.
