Bus warning as passengers face delays all month due to roadworks
Passengers are being warned of delays and diversions on buses in Reading[1] this month due to roadworks. The schemes will affect Reading Buses[2] routes in Caversham[3], Southcote[4] and Woodley[5] throughout September, the transport firm has said.
Road resurfacing and gas main replacement work will impact the jet black 1, lime 2, orange 13 and 14, berry 24, yellow 26 and royal blue 33 routes as well as school services 83 and 84. There will be diversions, and delays due to increased traffic[6] are expected, with people advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
Usual bus stops may also change due to the diversions. Buses will be serving all stops on the diversion routes.
The routes in Caversham will be affected by resurfacing in Lowfield Road on Saturday, September 9 and Monday to Friday, 11 to 15 September between 8am and 8pm. Lowfield Road will be closed entirely and Reading Buses say the berry 24 service along with school routes 83 and 84 will be diverted in this area.
The Bath Road and Castle Hill resurfacing works started on August 31 and will run until September 5 each day from 8am until 5pm and will affect jet black, lime, yellow 26 and royal blue 33 routes. There will also be works on Bath Road and Berkeley Avenue from Wednesday, September 6 until Friday, September 29.
The A4 Bath Road will be closed at the junction with Berkley Avenue in the direction of Calcot[8]. Meanwhile the work in Woodley will affect the orange 13 & 14 services.
From Monday, September 4 until Monday, October 2, buses on orange 13 and 14 will be diverted between Headley Road Circle and Woodley Piazza. "Reading Buses wish to thank customers for their patience during these necessary works," the company said.
