Boy of 13 cycling to school killed in lorry crash

A teenage boy was killed after being hit by a lorry on his way to school in Staffordshire[1]. The crash took place in Shobnall Road, by the junction of Wellington Road, in Burton-on-Trent on Wednesday, September 13.

A white Renault lorry was said to have hit the 13-year-old’s bicycle shortly before 8.30am. Police and ambulance crews attended the scene.

West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] also sent the Midlands Air Ambulance[3]. Despite the efforts of medics, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Staffordshire Police[5] appealed for witnesses. It said the boy’s family were being supported by specially-trained officers. A spokesperson for the force said: “We understand the distress this incident has caused among those who saw what happened and within the community.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the boy’s friends and family at this traumatic time. Collision investigators are working to establish the events leading to the collision and have been speaking to witnesses, including the driver of the lorry who stayed at the scene. The road has since re-opened.
