Air ambulance called to crash in Norton with one patient taken to …

Air ambulance crews, paramedics and police were called to the scene of a motorbike crash in Norton[1].

The incident happened at 2.30pm on Saturday, at the junction with Somerset Road and Norton Avenue.

The Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA) was called to the scene with a doctor and paramedic working alongside road ambulance crews. One patient was taken to James Cook University Hospital[2] in Middlesbrough[3].

A GNAA spokeswoman said: “The team was activated at 2.31pm to reports of a road traffic accident (RTC) in Norton. They arrived on scene at 2.35pm. We worked alongside the NEAS to assess and treat a patient. The patient was taken to hospital by NEAS road crew.”

The air ambulance left the scene at 3.30pm.

A NEAS spokesperson said, “We received a call at 2:17pm to reports of a road traffic collision on the junction of Norton Avenue and Somerset Road involving a motorcycle.

“We dispatched a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader, an emergency ambulance crew and an air ambulance. One patient was taken to James Cook hospital by road.”

Cleveland Police[4] added: “Officers are currently at the scene of a two-vehicle road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a motorbike which occurred at around 2.15pm this afternoon on Somerset Road in Norton.

“The male motorbike rider was taken to hospital where he currently remains. Anyone with information should contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting reference number 175452.”
