15 people injured after school bus crashes into Clavering tree …
Fifteen people sustained injuries after a school bus crashed into a tree in Clavering, near Saffron Walden, on Thursday (September 21). One passenger on the bus has serious injuries. Emergency services were called to Clatterbury Lane in Clavering at around 8.30am on Thursday morning. It came following reports of a crash involving a bus and a car.
The bus had also collided with a tree branch, causing extensive damage to the roof. Nobody was trapped in either vehicle, but a number of people required further medical assessment and care.
A spokesperson for Essex Police[1] has today (September 22) issued a statement saying: “Our investigation into a collision in Clatterbury Lane on Thursday 21 September is in its early stages and our enquiries are ongoing. As of this morning, one passenger of the bus has injuries considered to be serious, and 14 have sustained minor injuries.
“The collision was reported at about 8.15am on Thursday 21 September, and we closed the road while we and emergency services worked at the scene. Passengers on the bus were able to exit the vehicle and no serious injuries were reported from the scene at the time.”
A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service[4] said yesterday (September 21): “Three ambulances, four Hazardous Area Response Team vehicles, two ambulance officer vehicles and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were called to Clavering, Saffron Walden this morning following reports of a school bus involved in an incident. Three children were assessed at the scene and two were transported to Addenbrookes hospital for further assessment and care.”
An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service[5] spokesperson added: “Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision in Clatterbury Lane, Clavering at 8:23am. On arrival, crews reported found a car and bus had been in a collision. The bus had also collided with a tree branch causing extensive damage to the roof. Nobody was trapped in either vehicle and firefighters worked alongside partners to make the scene safe by 9am.”
