Up to 35 firefighters rushed to a blaze at a property where 100 cannabis plants were being grown in Birmingham. Emergency services were called to a home on Mansel Road, Small Heath[1], this morning.
Seven fire engines and three 4x4 brigade response vehicles from West Midlands Fire Service[2] responded to the fire reports shortly after 5.15am today, Thursday, September 28. The fire affected the entire loft space and also caused minor damage to the loft of the adjoining property.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus used five hose reels to extinguish the fire. There were no reports of causalities and West Midlands Police[3] were also at the scene.

A fire service spokesman told BirminghamLive: "Shortly after 5.15am on Thursday, September 28, we responded to an incident on Mansel Road in the Small Heath area of Birmingham. Initially, seven fire engines and three 4x4 brigade response vehicles responded, crewed by around 35 firefighters from Birmingham fire stations.
"This was a house fire in a two-storey terraced house where cannabis was being grown inside. The fire affected the entire loft space, also causing minor damage to the loft of the adjoining property. Ten firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used five hose reels to extinguish the fire, which was confirmed to be out shortly before 8.20am.
"Crews were supported by a drone, which was used to identify hotspots across the site. West Midlands Police[6] were also in attendance. There are no casualties as a result of this fire. We left the scene at 10.56am."
A police spokesman added: "More than 100 cannabis plants have been discovered following a fire at a property in Mansel Road, Birmingham, this morning. Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact us via Live Chat on our website, or by calling 101, and quote 20/847261/23."
