Yellow wind warning for South as Storm Antoni sweeps the country
While our area is expected to escape the worst of Storm Antoni which is currently sweeping the country, thunderstorms are expected during the morning (August 5) then it will be mainly cloudy and windy this afternoon with periods of light rain developing. High 19C. Winds W at 30 to 50 km/h. Chance of rain 93%. Winds could occasionally gust over 65 km/h and the Met office have a ‘yellow’ weather warning in place.
The Met office warn that:
- Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible
- Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen
- Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
- Some roads and bridges may close
- Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
- Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties
