Women killed two men after ‘explicit’ threat following hidden affair

Threats to expose sexually explicit material over a long term affair with a mum led to a double murder where a car was rammed off[1] the road.

Today, TikTok influencer Mahek Bukhari and her mum Ansreen Bukhari were found guilty of murder[2]ing Saqib Hussain and Mohammed Hashim Ijazuddin. Both men died in a high-speed car chase in February 2022.

During the three-month trial at Leicester Crown Court, prosecutors successfully argued that Mr Hussain and Mr Ijazuddin were deliberately rammed off the road[3].

Mahek, 24, was said to have "ambushed" Mr Hussain after he threatened to leak sexually explicit material exposing a long-running affair he had been having with her 46-year-old mum. Prosecutors said he was "lured" into meeting with the mother-daughter-duo on the pretence of giving him back the £3,000 he said he had spent on taking his older lover out during their affair.

Mr Hussain and Mr Ijazuddin, who had driven his friend to Leicester for the meeting as a "favour", were instead ambushed and then chased before the fatal crash. The court was told Mr Ijazuddin's Skoda Fabia "split in two" and caught fire[5] after hitting a tree in the early hours of February 11 last year. Footage from police attending the crash scene at about 1.35am showed the Skoda in flames, resting against a tree by the junction.

The pair's car had been rammed by an Audi TT belonging to TikTok star Mahek Bukhari, and a blue Seat Leon belonging to Natasha Akhtar. Neither were driving the vehicles at the time of the incident.

In a 999 call to police made by front-seat passenger Mr Hussain moments before his death, he said their car was being 'rammed off the road' by balaclava-wearing assailants in two pursuing cars. In the recording, played to Leicester Crown Court in April, he was heard saying: "They're trying to kill me, they're trying to kill me. I'm just getting rammed off the road."

Mr Hussain was heard to say "Oh my God", before there was a scream, with the call cutting off abruptly at the sound of an impact. Footage from police attending the crash scene, at about 1.35am, showed the Skoda in flames, resting against a tree by the Six Hills junction near Leicester.

The court heard how "completely innocent" Mr Ijazuddin agreed to drive his friend to Leicester that night and had been "in the wrong place at the wrong time", with the favour to Mr Hussain turning out "to be a tragic and fatal mistake", prosecutors said.

Fellow defendants Rekhan Karwan and Raees Jamal were also found guilty of two counts of murder, while Natasha Akhtar, Ameer Jamal and Sanaf Gulamustafa were all found not guilty of murder, but guilty of two counts of manslaughter. Co-defendant Mohammed Patel was cleared of murder and manslaughter after having claimed to only be an unwitting witness to the events.

The family of Mr Ijazuddin have paid the following tribute: "The day we found out Hashim had died, our world came crashing down. His death has changed everything. Everyone who knew Hashim, loved him. His death is not just a massive loss to our family but also to our whole community.

"Hashim was a cheeky young man who was always smiling, a handsome man who was beautiful both on the inside and out. He would do anything for anyone, was very caring and had a very kind heart. Hashim would always put others first and wouldn’t hesitate to help others if they needed it. On that tragic day, he was simply helping his friend and this resulted in his death.

"It has been extremely painful not only losing Hashim at such a young age but also in the circumstances in which we lost him. We will always be extremely proud of Hashim. Whatever he would have done in life, we know he would have excelled in it. Hashim was and will always be our superstar and our one-in-a-million. The family would like to thank the police, the CPS and the prosecuting counsel and everyone else who supported and prayed for Hashim and for us."

The defendants will be sentenced on September 1.
