Woman airlifted to hospital after serious crash in quiet Essex village

A woman and two men had to be rushed to hospital after a serious crash on a quiet village road. Emergency services scrambled to Lower Burnham Road in Latchingdon following the incident, which involved two vehicles.

Essex Police, paramedics and the air ambulance were called to the crash at around 11am on Friday (August 18). A female driver of a black Ford Fiesta, in her 60s, sustained multiple internal injuries and is in a critical condition in hospital.

A passenger in the Fiesta, a man in his 60s, and the driver of a white Vauxhall Vivaro van, a man in his 30s, were also injured.

The crash sparked a large response from the ambulance service, who sent three ambulances, two ambulance officer vehicles, two vehicles from the Hazardous Area Response Team, the East Anglian Air Ambulance, the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance and a car from the Essex Emergency Medical Charity, BASICS Essex.

A woman had to be airlifted to Kings College Hospital to be treated for serious injuries. Two men were taken by road to Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital and Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford, respectively.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ““We were called at 11.09am to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on the Lower Burnham Road in Latchingdon.

“Three ambulances, two ambulance officer vehicles, two vehicles from the Hazardous Area Response Team, the East Anglian Air Ambulance, the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance and a car from the Essex Emergency Medical Charity, BASICS Essex, were sent to the scene. An adult woman was airlifted to Kings College Hospital to be treated for serious injuries, while two men were transported by road to Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital and Broomfield Hospital respectively.”
