Woman, 76, killed after car mounted kerb and hit her

A woman has died after being hit by a car in Formby.[1]

The 76-year-old was walking along Elbow Lane[2], with another woman, 80, when she was hit by a Vauxhall Corsa that had mounted the pavement. The car hit the two women and two other stationary vehicles.

Police[3] confirmed paramedics treated the victim, who had suffered a serious head injury, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers, the force said.

The other victim, an 80 year-old woman, was taken to hospital but officers said she suffered only “slight injuries.” Detectives told the ECHO[5] the driver of the Vauxhall Corsa is continuing to assist police with their enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Andy Roper, of the serious collision investigation unit, said: “Our thoughts and sympathies go the family and friends of the woman who has sadly died. Our enquiries are at the early stages as we seek to establish what has taken place and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Elbow Lane[6] at around 4.20pm who saw anything or has any information which could assist with our enquiries to contact us.
