Woman, 24, killed in horror morning lorry crash as man arrested

A man has been arrested after a young woman was killed by a lorry this morning.
Pictures from the scene showed the lorry, with Spar livery, in a cordoned off area at the entrance to the Shell Garage on Wilbraham Street, off Scotland Road in Vauxhall. Police had erected a white tent as forensic investigators carried out their enquiries.
Now Merseyside Police[1] have confirmed the 24-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics. A 51-year-old man, from Lancashire, stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The man remains in custody for questioning by detectives.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, from the MATRIX Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We have launched an investigation following the death of a woman in a road traffic collision this morning.
“Her next-of-kin have been informed, and our specially trained officers are supporting them at this extremely difficult time and our thoughts are very much with them. Any death on the road causes a huge amount of heartache to family and friends left behind. To help us get answers for her family, I am appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information to please come forward.
“In addition, if you live locally or were in the area at the time of the incident, please check your CCTV or dashcam footage to see if you captured anything.”
The force said Scotland Road remains closed citybound from the junction with Jennifer Avenue whilst collision investigation work is carried out and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
