Witnesses say it sounded like bomb going off as truck crashed into …
A witness said it sounded "like a bomb going off" when a lorry crashed into the front of a shop. Emergency services were called to the scene after the incident just after 10am yesterday on North Street in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire.
Local man Donald Feeney, 60, was driving past just as the incident happened and immediately parked up to try and help as soon as hearing the crash. Donald said: "I was trying to take in what I was seeing. This vehicle was embedded in the front of the shop, and shattered glass everywhere.
"There was somebody screaming, and people were gathering."
The shop which sustained damage was COOK, a food shop selling frozen meals and desserts. Donald went inside the shop and "witnessed the devestation first hand".
He said a woman had been injured after she became trapped behind a chest freezer which had been moved by the crash. He said: "Members of the public were helping the woman.
"Someone came in who knew first aid."
East of England Ambulance Service confirmed a woman was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge but she is not believed to be seriously injured. Herts Police released a statement later in the day saying: "North Street in Bishop's Stortford is currently closed after a collision involving a truck which has collided with a shop front.
"Emergency services services are at the scene however the road is expected to be closed for some time. We are advising people to avoid the area."
