White powder thrown at driver in carjacking

White powder was thrown at a man during a carjacking.

The victim, 25, was driving his red VW Polo in Newton, Chester when his car was rammed into from behind[1] by a black Vauxhall Corsa. Two suspects then got out of the Corsa to meet the driver and threw white powder at him.

The two men then jumped into the car and drove off towards the Hoole direction. Police[2] said the incident happened on Newton Lane, near Lime Wood Close, at around 1.25pm on Saturday, July 29.

Officers have confirmed that they do not yet know what the white powder was, but they said the victim was not injured during the robbery. The incident prompted a major response from police, involving the force helicopter and roads policing officers, Cheshire Live reports.[3]

An extensive search of the area was conducted but police have not yet been able to locate the stolen car, which has a registration plate starting 'WJX'. Police are now appealing for anyone with information or video footage, or who may have seen the stolen vehicle since, to get in touch with them.

They say the VW Polo is likely to have sustained some damage to the rear where it was hit by the Corsa. Detective Constable Emma Donaldson, of Chester CID, said: "Enquiries in relation to this incident are ongoing and we are doing all that we can to trace the people responsible.

"As part of our investigation we’re keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any video footage. We’re also keen to hear from anyone who believes that they may have seen the stolen car since the incident, or any who knows the whereabouts the car.

"The car is a red VW Polo, registration starting ‘WJX’, there is likely to be some damage to the rear of the car from when it was hit by the Corsa. I’d ask anyone with any information to Contact us on 101, or at www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us[5], quoting IML 1608053. Information can also be reported anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
