When will A2 reopen? Drivers continue to face long delays after lorry …
It could take “several hours” before the A2 Jubilee Way reopen due to lorry fire,[1] the National Highways confirmed. The road near has been closed in both directions since around 5pm yesterday (August 4).
The incident happened on the northbound carriageway, causing long delays between the junctions with the A258 (Swinegate) and the A20 (Dover). National Highways and Kent Fire and Rescue Service are working together to recover the lorry as ‘safely and as quickly as possible’.
Drivers are being advised this is likely to take several hours once the lorry has been removed. A National Highways spokesperson said: “The carriageway will need to be inspected for fire and oil damage and may need to be resurfaced before the road can be re-opened.”

Local diversions are in place and drivers heading to the Port of Dover are being encouraged to consider using the M20 and A20. Highways is advising drivers to plan ahead and delay or allow extra time for journeys using alternative routes.
Earlier today, a KFRS spokesperson said: “Firefighters gave first aid to one person who had small cut on hand, the cause is not yet known. Kent Police also attended to assist with lane closures and duty of care was left with the Highways Agency.”
