Warning over dangerous heroin batch with people ‘seriously ill’

A warning has been issued over the circulation of a dangerous batch of heroin. Last month, six people died and a number of others required emergency care[1] after taking the drug in Bristol.

This morning (August 15), police in Wiltshire said a “particularly dangerous contaminated supply” of heroin is circulating around the county. A number of people became seriously ill because of an unintentional overdose in the Devizes and Chippenham area over the weekend.

Police have urged heroin users around the region to “exercise extreme caution”. They say there have been no reports of the batch in Melksham or Bradford-on-Avon as yet.

Melksham Police said: “We are taking the unusual step of warning heroin users to be aware of a particularly dangerous contaminated supply of heroin in circulation.

“This follows a number of incidents over the weekend, in the Devizes and Chippenham area, where we have responded to individuals who have become seriously ill because of an unintentional overdose.

“Whilst we do not condone illegal drug use – we have a duty of care to protect those who may face additional risk because of this particularly dangerous supply.

“If you are a heroin user, or you know someone who is – please exercise extreme caution.”
