Video captures moment car bursts into flames and causes A55 closure
The moment a car burst into flames on the A55[1] in Flintshire[2] has been captured on camera. The eastbound carriageway was brought to a standstill[3] at Pentre Halkyn, after the fire broke out, causing long delays today.
Thankfully nobody was hurt in the incident and the Welsh Ambulance Service[4] was not required, despite the ferocity of the blaze, which was thought to have been caused by a mechanical fault. A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service[5] spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.31 to a car fire on the A55.
“Crews used one hose reel jet and one set of breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.” A North Wales Police[6] spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.35am to report a vehicle fire on the A55 Eastbound at Pentre Halkyn, Holywell[7].
“The road was closed whilst emergency services dealt with the incident. The road has now reopened.”
Motorists were urged to avoid the area, while emergency services dealt with the incident. Traffic Wales also warned drivers not turn around and drive back up the carriageway to avoid the queues.[9]
One lane was still closed eastbound at 1.40pm with heavy congestion reported in the area.
