Two taken to hospital after crash on A1 in Northumberland

Two people have been taken to hospital after a crash in Northumberland[1] this afternoon, which led to large tailbacks in the area.

The North East Ambulance Service[2] responded to reports of a road traffic collision on the A1 near Alnwick just after midday today, subsequently dispatching two crews to the scene.

Photos seen by Chronicle Live show that Northumbria Police[3] were also in attendance to assist where possible.

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed that two people were taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital for further treatment.

A NEAS spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the A1 near Alnwick at 12.24pm this afternoon (6 August).

"We dispatched two ambulance crews, who assessed and transported two patients to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital."
