Two people in hospital after crash that caused rush hour gridlock
Two people were rushed to hospital after a crash on a major route in an Essex city which caused gridlock during rush hour. The crash happened on Parkway in Chelmsford near the roundabout with the High Chelmer multi-storey car park.
The crash, involving at least two vehicles, took place at around 3.30pm on Tuesday (August 9). Pictures from the scene show a white Toyota and a silver Vauxhall which have both front ends destroyed by the collision.
Both cars have been written off, with the airbags also deployed. The wreckage and debris were spread across both lanes of the westbound carriageway of Parkway just before the roundabout, causing the road to be shut for more than two hours.
The closure had a knock-on effect on many other roads in Chelmsford, with Moulsham Street, New London Road, Writtle Road and Waterhouse Lane all suffering heavy traffic and congestion during the rush-hour period.

A spokesman said: “We were called at 3.30pm on Tuesday 8 August to a road traffic collision on the Parkway in Chelmsford. Three ambulances and an ambulance officer vehicle were sent to the scene. Two patients were transported to Broomfield Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
