Two men taken to hospital after car flipped onto roof in A19 crash
Two men have been taken to hospital after a crash resulted in a car flipping onto its roof.
Emergency services descended on a stretch of the A19[1] southbound on Tuesday night, near to the Hylton Bridge, following a serious crash. One lane was closed as police and ambulance crews attended.
The crash resulted in a car landing on its roof and two men were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital[2]. It is understood their injuries are non-life threatening.
A Northumbria Police[4] spokesperson said: “Shortly before 8pm we received a report of a collision on the A19, near the Hylton Bridge. It was reported that a car had flipped over on to its roof.
“Emergency services attended and two men were taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.”
A lane closure remained in place up until after 9pm and the damaged car was removed from the scene by around 9.30pm.
A North East Ambulance Service[5] spokesperson said: “We received a call at 7.53pm last night (Tuesday 15 August) to reports of a road traffic incident on the A19 southbound near Sunderland[6]. We dispatched one ambulance crew and a rapid response paramedic to the scene. Two patients were transported to the Sunderland Royal Hospital for further treatment.”
