Truck driver hits and kills mum ‘in road rage row’ as she shows son …

This is the harrowing moment a mother was fatally hit by a lorry[1] – in front of her 17-year-old son – following a road rage[2] incident.

The HGV had allegedly bumped into Leonia Picone’s Ford Mondeo as she gave her son a driving lesson in the moments which led to the death. Ms Picone, 55, had got out of the car in Wetherill Park, Sydney, and is seen in footage walking over to the truck and throwing her arms up at the driver. Ms Picone’s son also gets out the car and stands to the side of the truck in the clip, filmed on Wednesday morning.

But, in part of distressing footage cut by Mirror, the truck then moves forward and hits Ms Picone. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the single mother died at the scene.

Death of Stagecoach driver who died in horror crash is being treated as murder[3]

Although the road was closed for hours while detectives probed the impact, local media reports no one has been arrested in connection with the death. Speaking to News.com.au[4], Ms Picone’s brother-in-law Kevin Cameron described her as a “good mother” who cared for her parents.

The woman’s son was treated for shock at the scene, but was otherwise uninjured. The driver of the truck – believed to have been a 51-year-old man – was not injured. A crime scene remains in place in the suburb, which is near large parkland in the west of Sydney, and specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit will continue to investigate, police said. A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
