Tributes paid to young bus driver who died in crash as pals label …

The tragic bus driver who died following a smash[1] on the A77 has been named by a devastated Stagecoach boss. Gordon Stirling, from Crosshouse, Ayrshire[2], passed away five days after the service 4 bus he was driving crashed with a van near Fenwick on Monday.

The 23-year-old was seriously injured following the collision on Monday evening while the 42-year-old van driver, who was in a serious but stable condition, is now stable.

Fiona Docherty, Stagecoach West Scotland’s managing director said that the entire workforce has been left devastated by the young man’s passing and that their heartfelt condolences go out to Gordon’s family and friends. She said: “It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of our colleague Gordon Stirling. Gordon was the driver of the service 4 bus which was involved in a road traffic incident with another vehicle on Monday, August 14 on the A77.

“The whole Stagecoach team is devastated about this and we all send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. We are also supporting those colleagues at Stagecoach who knew him.”

Stagecoach also said that a full investigation is ongoing into the incident.

Ms Doherty added: “We thank the emergency services[4] for their response and the NHS team at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. A full investigation is under way into this incident.”

One person said on Facebook: “I may drive lorries, Gordon drove buses but absolutely nobody should go to their work and not return home in any circumstances, not least in the most horrifying way Gordon suffered on Monday night. Thoughts go out to absolutely everyone connected to this absolutely tragic loss of life. May you be the driving force in heaven mate.”
