Trains cancelled between Newcastle and Hexham due to …

Trains[1] have been cancelled between Newcastle[2] and Hexham[3] after trespassers on the line led to “severe disruption” to services.

Operator Northern[4] alerted passengers to the disruption on Saturday morning, advising: “Services between Newcastle and Hexham/Carlisle are currently being disrupted due to a trespass incident. British Transport Police have attended and resolved the situation.”

All lines have since reopened, and train services running through these stations are returning to normal after the incident. However, Northern cautioned that some services will still be cancelled or delayed, with disruption expected through the morning.

Routes affected by delays and short-notice cancellations while the service recovers from the disruption are those running from Carlisle to Newcastle, Carlisle to Morpeth/Chathill, and Hexham to Middlesbrough/Nunthorpe. Customers are advised to listen for announcements on the platform or check information screens in the stations for the latest updates on their journey.

The disruption caused by trespassers on the line led to the 7:31am Middlesbrough to Hexham service leaving Blaydon with a 53-minute delay and terminating at Prudhoe. The 8:02am service from Carlisle to Morpeth also departed Prudhoe 44 minutes late.

Northern apologised to customers for the delay in services and the additional journey times due to the disruption. If your journey has been delayed by 15 minutes or more, hold on to your tickets and claim compensation by visiting Northern’s Delay Repay service[6].

British Transport Police have been contacted for comment.
