Trains cancelled and services delayed after tree falls on railway line

Trains have been cancelled this morning (Tuesday, August 15) on the London to Norwich line after a tree fell on the line in Suffolk. Greater Anglia services throughout Norfolk and Suffolk are heavily disrupted after the incident, which happened between Ipswich and Manningtree.

A Greater Anglia spokesperson said: "Due to a tree having fallen onto the railway, striking a train and blocking the two lines, services are suspended between Manningtree and Ipswich. Train services will be affected in the following ways:

  • Services from Liverpool Street to Ipswich and Norwich will terminate at Colchester.
  • Services from Norwich to Liverpool Street will terminate at Ipswich.
  • Services from Ipswich to Liverpool Street will start at Colchester."

They added: "Network Rail staff are en route to remove the tree, whilst the train that reported the tree will be checked by engineers.

"A limited Rail Replacement Bus service will be in operation between Colchester, Manningtree and Ipswich, with buses expected to arrive on site between 8am and 9am.

"The Rail Replacement service will be operated by Panther Travel, Angie's Tours, Dans Coach Travel, Completely Travel, Klarners, Thompsons, Ipswich Buses and North Essex Travel.. We are currently trying to source further Rail Replacement Buses."

Commuters and other Greater Anglia customers should prepare for long delays throughout the morning. It is not known when services will resume as normal.
