Train services affected across Cambs due to strikes on Bank Holiday …

A number of train services across Cambridgeshire will experience heavy disruption this bank holiday weekend as further industrial action takes place. Rail strikes will happen on Saturday (August 26) as the long-running dispute over work conditions and pay continues.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) at Network Rail will be taking action on successive Saturdays, including the upcoming August bank holiday. A total of 20 train operators will be impacted on the day.

Cambridgeshire[1] rail services will be severely reduced on both days with people advised to “only travel if absolutely necessary on strike days”. Passengers are also being warned that some services may be delayed or cancelled.

Here is a breakdown of Cambridgeshire services that will be affected by the rail strikes on Saturday:

CrossCountry

A very limited service will be in place during the strike day. People are being advised to check their entire journeys before they decide to travel.

Trains from Birmingham New Street to Peterborough[3] will run every two hours. First train leaves at 9.22am and the last train is at 5.22pm.

Greater Anglia

Trains will be running across the company’s network between 7am and 11pm (or until 9pm). Some routes will have a reduced frequency and others will see no services a all.

In Cambridgeshire, the Cambridge to London Liverpool Street route, the Ipswich to Cambridge route, and the Norwich to Stansted Airport route (which runs through Ely[4] and Cambridge) will all be affected.

Great Northern

One train per hour will run between Cambridge and Ely, calling at Cambridge, Cambridge North, Waterbeach and Ely only. One train per hour will run between Cambridge and King’s Lynn, calling at the above four stations plus Littleport, Downham Market, Watlington and King’s Lynn only.

One train per hour will run between London King’s Cross and Cambridge, calling at King’s Cross, Finsbury Park, Potters Bar, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City, Welwyn North, Knebworth, Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth Garden City, Baldock, Ashwell & Morden, Royston, Meldreth, Shepreth, Foxton and Cambridge only.

Additionally, one train per hour will run between King’s Cross and Cambridge, calling at King’s Cross, Finsbury Park, Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth Garden City, Baldock, Ashwell & Morden, Royston and Cambridge only.

Two trains per hour will run between London King’s Cross and Peterborough, calling at King’s Cross, Finsbury Park, Stevenage, Hitchin, Arlesey, Biggleswade, Sandy, St Neots, Huntingdon[5] and Peterborough only.
