Three fire engines attend bin lorry fire on Lincoln Close in Woolston

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service was informed of the incident on Lincoln Close in Woolston shortly before 7am.

Rubbish was removed from the vehicle and a hose reel jet was used to put out the fire.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “It is believed to have been caused by a discarded vacuum cleaner battery.”

Following the incident, Warrington Fire Station said: “Incorrect disposal of lithium ion batteries are resulting in more and more fires in bins and waste disposal sites across Cheshire.

“Please be aware when disposing.”

The Warrington Borough Council website advises residents to never put batteries in any of your bins.

You can take batteries to a community recycling centre or to your local Livewire library to dispose of them safely.
