Thorpe Park’s new rollercoaster will be UK’s ‘tallest and fastest’

A new Thorpe Park rollercoaster set to become the “UK’s tallest and fastest” appears to be on track to open in 2024. This is after the resort between Staines[1] and Chertsey[2] teased “a little thing” it referred to as Project Exodus.

Plans for the “beast of a coaster” were initially reported[3] in December 2021 when emphasis was said to have been placed on “refreshing the theme park experience” after the impact of the pandemic. Thrill-seekers were then given a first look[4] at the 72-metre rollercoaster in December 2022.

It was at this time that a 15-month construction schedule was shared among planning documents. Plans submitted to Runnymede Borough Council show Project Exodus will be housed in the park’s Old Town area at the back end of the park close to the site of the now-closed Logger’s Leap ride.

Thorpe Park teased in a 30-second video last Wednesday (August 16): “We’re taking thrills to epic new heights. Get ready for the UK’s tallest and fastest rollercoaster. Thorpe Park 2024.”

The resort added: “We couldn’t let National Rollercoaster Day go by without mentioning a little thing we call ‘Project Exodus’ – our new beast of a coaster coming soon to Thorpe Park. Not only is Project Exodus going to be the UK’s tallest rollercoaster, but it’ll also be the UK’s fastest coaster and will stand proud with its striking black, gold, and white colour scheme.”

Project Exodus – as the ride has been referred to by the park and in plans – will reach nearly 10 metres higher than Thorpe Park’s current tallest ride, Stealth. A top speed for the new coaster has not been confirmed, however, it will be faster than 80 miles per hour – the current park record, also held by Stealth.

The new Thorpe Park ride will be in the resort’s Old Town area

The latest details from plans submitted to the council suggest work is underway to complete new buildings with gold, black, and white colour schemes having been tested out. Existing buildings would have been demolished at this point and a lake partially infilled in order for construction to have reached this stage.
