The most and least anxious places in Kent according to the Office for …
With the cost-of-living crisis, and the long lasting impact of the pandemic, people’s mental health has been affected over the past few years. Some areas more than others.
The most anxious place in Kent has been revealed by the Office for National Statistics, with Thanet taking the top spot. At the other end of the scale, Dartford has been ranked as England’s area with the lowest anxiety level.
In the Office for National Statistics’ new edition of their health index, several factors have been ranked across all local authorities in the country. This includes mental health, self-harm, suicides, life satisfaction and feeling of anxiety.
The latter has been used to determine the worst and least ‘anxious’ area in the county. Thanet had the worst score for anxiety in Kent with 64.4 followed by Tunbridge Wells with 75.8.
At the top of the list, Dartford received a score of 140.5 and Gravesham with 113.2. While the former also obtained the highest score for life satisfaction with 120.9, the latter was on the other hand at the bottom of the list with the lowest score of 57.4.
The ONS website states: “People’s satisfaction with their own health has been declining since 2016, while people reporting evidence of depression and anxiety has increased in the same period.
“In January 2020 to December 2021, 44.7% of adults in the UK reported being mostly satisfied or completely satisfied with their general health. This is significantly lower than in January 2018 to December 2019 (48.0%), and around nine percentage points lower than in January 2009 to December 2010, when the time series began (53.3%). This likely reflects the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, which affected the UK from early 2020.”
