So just which ones have triumphed?
City centre offering Mackie Mayor came third out of ten, with Altrincham Market coming in sixth and, Hatch, Freight Island and Bury Market all making the list in eighth, ninth and tenth spot respectively.
Mackie Mayor, Manchester
This food court on the edge of Manchester’s Northern Quarter can be found in a restored Grade II listed building. Open from breakfast to dinner there’s plenty to try for all tastes and diets. Diners can tuck into Tender Cow’s rare breed steaks, Mumma’s fried chicken burgers, or Pico’s tacos and frozen margarita cocktails. Mackie Mayor is also rated the best market in the UK for Italian and Japanese cuisine.

Altrincham Market
The Market House is home to 10 independent quality food operators including Honest Crust wood fired pizza “among the country’s best”; Wolfhouse Kitchen (former Rose Bakery pastry & savoury chefs); Tender Cow (rare breed flat iron steak & chips); Jack in the Box (craft beers); Reserve Wines (BBC Food & Drink Kate Goodman’s wine bar/shop); Great North Pie Co. (multi award winning pies); Sam Joseph (hand made chocolates) and Market House Coffee (serving Atkinsons of Lancaster coffee).

Freight Island
Slap, bang in the regeneration of Depot Mayfield, Escape to Freight Island is an urban market and festival space filled with food, drink, music and festival calibre immersive entertainment.
It houses multiple bars, restaurants, food trucks. There’s also a 70s New York-inspired roller disco, a retro arcade games corridor and a hidden high-fi audio bar, which transforms into a karaoke venue called Queen Samantha’s.

Bury Market
Ah, where would we be without good old Bury Market. Apparently world famous and well known for its black pudding.
This open-air market consists of a large market hall, with extensive stalls outside, selling fruit, flowers, clothing, hardware and groceries.
A new fish and meat market hall was constructed in the 1990s. The market opens on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and attracts visitors from miles around.
