‘So unbelievably sad’ as tributes paid to person hit by train

Messages of condolence have been left after a person died after being hit by a train.

National Rail confirmed a person was hit by a train between Hall Road and Southport[1] stations today. Merseyrail first started reporting disruption between Moorfields and Formby just before 4pm following an “incident on the line”

Emergency services were called to the scene, including an air ambulance. British Transport Police (BTP) has now confirmed the person died at the scene, despite the best efforts of paramedics and police.

No other details regarding the person or their age has yet been confirmed.

A spokesperson from BTP said: “Officers were called to the line near Formby[3] at 3.50pm today (22 August) following reports of a casualty on the line. Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Following the tragic news ECHO readers took to the comments on Facebook to pay tribute to the person.
