A man has been taken to hospital after a serious crash on the A14[1] on the Cambridgeshire[2] border on Tuesday morning (August 29). The westbound carriageway between Junction 39 (Kentford) and Junction 37 (Exning) is currently closed as a result of the incident.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the scene at around 4.50am to reports of a crash involving a car and a lorry. A traffic diversion is in place while investigation work takes place in the area.

The eastbound carriageway between Junction 38 and Junction 39 is also closed, with heavy congestion on the roads. National Highways has advised people to plan their journeys accordingly if travelling in that direction.

A Cambridgeshire Police[4] spokesperson said: “We were called at about 4.50am today (29 August) with reports of a collision on the A14 near Chippenham. The collision, which involved a car and a HGV, blocked the road. The road has been closed in both directions between junction 39 and 37 while the incident is dealt with.”

A spokesperson for East of England Ambulance Service[5] added: “Two ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and East Anglian Air Ambulance were called to a road traffic collision near junction 38 of the Westbound A14 this morning. One man was transported to Addenbrooke’s Hospital[6] by road ambulance.”
