Police storm Batley Carr street after ‘explosive’ found in shed
There was a large emergency services presence near Dewsbury[1] this afternoon after reports than an explosive had been found.
Upper Road was closed by West Yorkshire Police as emergency services personnel rushed to the scene outside a residential property on Upper Road in Batley Carr[2]. The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended the incident as officers worked to determine the danger to the public.
It has since been confirmed that what is believed to be a hand grenade was found in an old shed outside the property. Thankfully for all of those involved, it was discovered that the device was ‘non-viable’ and was not a threat to the wider public.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Emergencies services were called to reports of what is believed to be a hand grenade in an old shed at a property in Upper Road, Dewsbury.
“Officers from the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team have attended and declared this a non-viable device.”
