Police hunting driver of stolen car abandoned in Stoke-on-Trent

Police are hunting for the driver of a stolen car. The VW Golf was abandoned in Moorland Road, in Burslem[1], after earlier failing to pull over for police on nearby Waterloo Road.

Staffordshire Police[2] discovered the vehicle and found the driver nowhere to be seen. But the passenger was arrested on suspicion of car theft.

The drama unfolded at 3.15pm on Sunday, August 27.

A police spokesman said: “Officers tried to pull over a VW Golf on Waterloo Road. The car failed to stop and continued to drive until it stopped in Burslem.

“We checked the car at the scene and confirmed it had been stolen. The passenger – a 23-year-old man, from Biddulph[3] – was arrested on suspicion of car theft. He has since been released under investigation. The driver did not stop at the scene and left the area.”

Police are appealing witnesses. They should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 361 of 27 August, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
