Police ‘find note’ naming alleged killer of Sara Sharif
Police have reportedly found a note naming the alleged killer of a 10-year-old girl found dead in her home[1]. The body of Sara Sharif, whose mother lives in Somerset, was found at the girl’s home near Woking, Surrey, by police who were called from Pakistan by her father on August 10.
The Mirror[2] reports officers now want to question father Urfan Sharif, 41, his partner Beinash Batool, 29, and his 28-year-old brother Faisal Malik, who are thought to have travelled from the UK to Islamabad the day before the body was found. Sara’s cause of death remains unknown but it has now been reported that officers have found a letter alleged to name her killer.
The Daily Mail reports that the note was written by a family member and claims that Sara was “beaten to death” by someone known to her family. According to MailOnline[3], the note reads: “Who ever sees this, it was XXXX who killed… (Sara)… by beating. I am running away because I am scared.”
The note goes against claims made by an uncle in Pakistan who said Sara died falling down the stairs and breaking her neck. The publication said the note was found by Surrey Police near Sara’s body on the day she died.
One neighbour told the BBC Sara had reportedly been seen at school covered in cuts and bruises[5] in the months before her death. The neighbour, who asked only to be identified as Jessica, said: “Just before the Easter holidays she was in school and had cuts and bruises on her face and her neck.
“My daughter had asked what had happened and she said she’d fallen off a bike and then kind of walked away. The next day the teacher announced she had left school and she was being home-schooled.”
Sara’s mum Olga Sharif, who lives in Yeovil, said she is desperately seeking for answers[6] amid further concerns for Sara’s teenage brother who is also believed to be in Pakistan. She told The Sun[7]: “I don’t want to hear from his brother. I’ve never met that brother, even when I was in Pakistan. I don’t know him.
“He could have just made that claim to protect his brother and try to stop questions being asked. I don’t think he is being honest. If he believes that is what happened then he could have been lied to by Urfan to try and win his family over.
“His baseless version answers none of my questions. If there was an accident you don’t leave the country in secret. The only person I want answers from is Urfan. He has to be questioned about what’s happened to my daughter.”
A post-mortem examination, which took place on Tuesday, August 15 , did not establish the cause of Sara’s death and further tests are being carried out.
Detective Superintendent Mark Chapman, from the Surrey Police and Sussex Police major crime team said: “While the post-mortem has not provided us with an established cause of death at this time, the fact that we now know that Sara had suffered multiple and extensive injuries[8] over a sustained and extended period has significantly changed the nature of our investigation, and we have widened the timescale of the focus of our inquiry.”
