The incident led some people living in the area to voice their concerns about road safety in the area on a Chesterton-based public Facebook[3] group. One person said: "Another tree in our street gone. They drive crazily around here at night," while someone else likened the driving in the area to that seen on a racetrack.

One person who lives on Eastfield, which leads onto Ashfield Road, said: "My cat was killed outside my house by a speeding driver and my daughter almost got taken out crossing the road, as we live by the corner and people speed around it. They need to put extra speed bumps on the back roads."
