Person left with ‘life changing injuries’ after major crash

A person has been rushed to hospital with “life-changing injuries” after a serious collision on the M25 near to Lakeside Shopping Centre. Emergency services were called to the M25 at the Mardyke Junction, close to Aveley and the shopping centre, at about 10.25am.

On arrival, police and fire crews reported that two lorries and two cars had collided. Firefighters worked to rescue two people who were trapped in their cars by 11.45am.

Photos shared by Essex County Fire and Rescue Service showed one lorry, believed to be a tanker, as having collided with another which was carrying steel pipes. The image showed pipes and a container as having fallen onto the roundabout.

The collision continues to cause delays on the M25 and A13. At the time of writing, congestion has reached J28 Brentwood on the M25 clockwise and J30 to J29 for Romford heading anti-clockwise.

A spokesperson for Essex Police[2] said: “One person appears to have sustained life-changing injuries and has been taken to hospital. We are at the scene on the roundabout and disruption is expected for some time. Drivers should plan their journeys accordingly.”

National Highways said: “2 lanes (of 3) are closed on the M25 J30 clockwise exit due to a collision involving two lorries. As a result there is only access to the A13 eastbound. There’s also a partial closure of the J30 roundabout. There’s a 50 minute delay on approach with 4 miles of congestion.”
