People told to avoid Crosby beach area while teams search for man

Merseyside police are asking people to avoid the area close to Crosby beach this evening as a huge search and rescue operation is underway.

Emergency services including teams from police, fire and rescue and North West Ambulance are all in attendance at Crosby Marine Lake[1]. In a statement police confirmed they received reports of a man in the Marine Lake at around 4.50pm today.

The statement reads: “We can confirm that emergency services are responding to an incident in Waterloo this evening, Friday 11 August.

“At around 4.50pm we received a report of a concern for safety of a man in the Marine Lake, next to Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre.

“The incident is ongoing and we ask that people please avoid the area at this time.”

No further details including the man’s age have been released at this time.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Fire and rescue also confirmed crews are at Crosby Marine lake this evening and described the incident as “ongoing”.

They received reports of a person in the water at 4.55pm today with crews arriving at the scene for 5.03pm.

Police and search and rescue teams are at the scene too. North West hazardous area response team is searching the lake.
