Oxfordshire: Seven more 20mph schemes are approved

Oxfordshire County[1] Council has approved the measures for Launton, Crowmarsh Gifford and North Stoke, Cropredy, Chipping Norton, Ascott-under-Wychwood, Wroxton and Balscote and Wardington.

In February 2022, the council’s cabinet approved funding of up to £8million to deliver 20mph areas as a replacement for 30mph areas where there is local support.

The authority said the 20mph restrictions will “make streets safer by reducing speeds and enabling a more equitable use of the road space for all users and encourage residents to walk or cycle by reducing speeds”.

It said the introduction of the 20mph schemes in the 2021/2022 pilot areas has already reduced speeds by up to four mph.

The measures are part of the county council’s commitment to ‘Vision Zero’ – the elimination of deaths and serious injuries from road traffic collisions in Oxfordshire.
