Oxford: Plan for digital advertising board on Botley Road
Magenta Self Storage on Botley Road is proposing to change their sign for an advertising display.
The new sign would be 6 metres in width and 3 metres in height and would enclose a digital display.
According to the plans it would show a range of images, with a new image appearing every 10 seconds.
Advertisements would not contain any movement, animation or special effects.
The illuminated sign would face towards on-coming traffic travelling eastwards along Botley Road.
Paul Thacker, director of Turnkey Design Partnership, the agent in the application, stated in the cover letter: “The highway is well-lit and level, providing excellent forward visibility on approach to the site, allowing drivers to glance at any advert far in advance without being distracted from the road ahead.”
Magenta Self Storage is requesting consent to use the advertising sign for 10 years, until August 2033.
The plans were submitted to Oxford City Council on August 15 and are currently under consideration by the planning committee.
Botley Road is currently closed at the rail bridge while Network Rail carry out a multi-million pound development of Oxford Station.
The road has been closed since April and is not expected to re-open until the end of October.
A similar closure is planned for next year.
The works have significantly reduced the amount of traffic travelling down Botley Road, which is usually used as a key route into Oxford from the A34.
