Overturned lorry carrying cooking oil shuts M11 near Stansted …

The M11 remained shut this morning after a lorry overturned on the motorway near Stansted Airport (August 17). Emergency repairs were being undertaken on the road after the lorry suffered an oil spillage.

Traffic was held for quite some time throughout the evening, but the motorway was shut while these repairs are taking place. The road reopened at around 7am the following morning.

A National Highways spokesperson said at the time of the crash: "The M11 is closed in both directions between the slips at J8 Bishops Stortford. Stansted Airport traffic is being diverted off at the exit slip and back on at the entry slip (up and over). Approx. Half an hour delay on approach."
