No trains to Reigate on day of Pride in Surrey

There will be no trains going to Reigate during Pride on Saturday, September, 9. Engineering works mean that those travelling to the event from around Surrey may have to take a significantly longer bus journey in order to participate.

Charlie Watts, chief executive of Pride in Surrey said that “since being made aware of the engineering works we have been working with local businesses around Reigate[1] to make more public parking available on the day of Pride. We are also working with our parade traffic management to tweak our plans to keep the flow of traffic open throughout Reigate as we anticipate more road traffic following the engineering works.

“Though this will have an impact on people getting to the event we are remaining positive that people will find away to get to Reigate. Our events have not been shy to disruption: we had a bad storm when setting up for Woking[2] in 2019, and not to forget the national fuel shortage in 2021.”

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “On Saturday 9 September planned engineering work will affect a number of train services across parts of Surrey.

“Our engineers are completing a number of vital upgrades on the line between Guildford and Tonbridge, and Redhill[4] and Horley[5], to help maintain the safe and reliable running of the railway.

“We’re sorry to any passengers whose journeys will be impacted by this work and we have worked closely with the train operators to ensure passengers are still able to reach their destinations through replacement buses.

“We’re advising passengers to check with their train operator before they travel or visit the National Rail website.”

Travel advice given by network rail shows that replacement buses will run between:

  • Purley and Reigate via Redhill
  • Redhill and Guildford via Reigate
  • Purley and Horley via Redhill (extended to Gatwick Airport in the evening)
  • Redhill and Edenbridge (extended to Tonbridge in the evening)

Bus goers will have to spend extra time on the road, with the route from Guildford[6] expected to take as much as 40 minuets more than if travelling by train.
