New plan unveiled to replace town’s vacant Aldi supermarket

A vacant supermarket could get a new lease of life as plans go in for a new retail store and café. The former Aldi store on South Parade, Grantham, was listed on the market after it was relocated to a brand new store on the corner of Harlaxton Road and Trent Road back in March 2022.

The Air Ambulance charity has submitted an application to South Kesteven District Council to change the use of the empty site. Proposals include a retail store which would sell furniture, white goods, household goods and clothing as well as an ancillary café.

It is noted in the application that no cooking would take place on the premises. The plans also state that the charity is seeking permission as a lessee, meaning it would lease the site.

The former Aldi site is currently listed with estate agents Lamb and Swift at a price of £1.3 million. According to the listing, the 14,090 Sq Ft property is now ‘under offer’.

It is described as a strong secondary location, adjoining existing Dunelm, Buildbase and Furniture Barn stores, with 92 dedicated parking spaces. A decision on the plans is yet to be made.
