Mum discovers Wetherspoon chip so large she thought it was fake
This mum claims she discovered the 'biggest Wetherspoon chip in the world' that dwarfed her burger and was the same size as her fork - so big she thought it was fake. Sophie Turnock was originally disappointed when she was served a 'paltry' 15 fries for dinner after a day of shopping.
However, the 24-year-old got more than she bargained for after finding what she believes to be 'the biggest Wetherspoon chip in the world' lurking in her cheese and bacon burger meal. Sophie, who was dining with partner Max Sugden, 27, and son Finn Turnock, six, at the time, claims that the monster fry was almost the size of her fork - a whopping seven inches in length.
The mum-of-two says that the gargantuan treat was buried beneath the other food - and was uncovered after Finn pinched another chip off her plate. Sophie claims that the deep-fried delicacy was so large that the family broke it open to see if it was 'fake', as they believed it was impossible to find a potato that size.
The stay-at-home mum claims that the generously large fry made up for the fact that she had only received a paltry 15-chip count - as it was the size of 'three chips in one'.

"Then we were like, 'woah - look at the size of that chip'. "I was so gobsmacked by it - I was like, 'what potato has this come from'?
"Honestly, the potato has got to have been the size of the chip. So how have they got a potato this big? I wondered if it was fake at first. I was thinking that you can't get a potato that big - I've never seen a potato that big.
"My partner was gobsmacked too. He thought the chip wasn't real. We broke open the chip to check that it was. I reckon it's an 18 cm [seven inch] chip, and I'm not exaggerating. You wouldn't believe it if I didn't take a picture of it next to the fork.
"The fact that the Wetherspoon workers didn't keep the chip to talk about, and just put it on a plate, [was very confusing]. We didn't have very many chips, so this kind of made up for it. It was like three chips in one.
"I actually think it's the biggest Wetherspoon chip in the world."
Sophie claims that Finn was given the honour of chowing down on the fork-sized surprise - shortly after the mum snapped some pics to share on social media. Although Sophie says that finding the chip 'made her day', the dumbfounded diner claims that she should have contacted someone about the fry as it could have been a record-setter.
The Wetherspoon enthusiast claims that the family eat at the popular UK chain often, and says that she will be on the lookout for more giant chips in the future. Sophie said: "My son ended up having the pleasure of eating it. He's six and was like, 'can I have it please?' So he ended up having the chip. I couldn't say no to him.
"He enjoyed it. He said it tasted like a normal chip - just massive. It was just the most random thing to happen. It made our day, we didn't stop talking about it.
"I should have got in touch with someone - [it could have been in] the Guinness World Record Book for chips. I'll be on the lookout for more giant Wetherspoon chips in the future. We go to Wetherspoon a lot as well."
Sophie shared a photo of the shockingly large fry on Facebook on 16th June, where it racked up more than 200 likes, comments and shares. Sophie's post reads: "15 chip count here, but definitely made up for it with this massive chip!"
Viewers were quick to share their opinions in the comments, with many expressing similar amazement over the size of the huge side.
One said: "[Would] love to see the spud that came from."
A second said: "Crikey, that's a big one."
A third commented: "Whopperooni."
Harry Tayler claimed to have discovered a 13.4inch chip at Wetherspoons at The Old Swanne Inne in Evesham, Worcestershire, in November 2021 - though social media users speculated it was two fries joined together.
