Multiple fire crews called to rescue sheep ‘stuck’ in Coventry pond

Multiple fire crews were called out as a sheep had to be rescued after getting into 'difficulty' in a pond in Coventry[1]. Firefighters rushed to the scene near Wall Hill Road on Tuesday (August 1).

A total of four appliances from Coventry[2] and Bickenhall were dispatched shortly before 10am. Crews found that the sheep had got stuck in silt, said West Midlands Fire Service[3].

Firefighters used specialist rescue equipment to bring the animal to safety. It was left in the care of a farmer with crews leaving the scene at around 11am.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service[5] said: “Shortly before 10am on Tuesday, August 1, we responded to the Wall Hill Road area of Coventry[6] where a sheep was in difficulty in a pond. Three fire engines attended, two from Coventry[7], and another from Bickenhill. A Specialist Technical Rescue Vehicle from Bickenhill was also mobilised.

“Using specialist rescue equipment, we successfully freed the animal which had got stuck in silt. We left the sheep in the care of a farmer and came away from the scene just after 11am.”

Coventry Fire Station[8] said on Twitter[9]: “Someone was feeling a bit sheepish about getting stuck in the pond. Luckily @WMFSCoventry and @WMFSTechRescue were ewe-sful at getting her out. She has now been baaaa-ed from swimming.”
