Man suffers ‘serious injuries’ after crash with lorry
A man was taken to hospital after he suffered serious injuries following a crash with a lorry.
Emergency services were called to the Formby bypass[1] at around 10.30am today, August 24, at its junction with Liverpool Road. Police received a report of a crash which involved a motorcyclist and a HGV.
The man who was riding the motorbike sustained several serious injuries and was taken to hospital. An air ambulance landed at the scene, however it is unclear if the man was taken to hospital via air ambulance.
Police[3] said the driver of the lorry remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries. Formby Bypass is currently closed from Altcar Road southbound while officers continue their investigations.
Traffic management system Inrix said there are long delays while the road is closed. Bus services were also diverted following the crash.
Arriva North West tweeted: “Due to a police incident on the Formby bypass, service 47 is currently unable to get to Liverpool. Passengers travelling from Southport to Liverpool should use service 300 where possible. Services will be reinstated as soon as the road reopens.”
