Major Woking roads to shut for 8 nights as improvements continue

Drivers face delays as roadworks continue around Woking town centre. Improvements are being made to a major route in and out of the town centre^[1] with overnight closures planned over the next two weeks.

Roads will close on eight nights as part of the Victoria Way improvements. The route leads to the shopping centre car park and round towards the train station, which could impact commuters and those taking public transport

Woking Borough Council^[2] warned there is potential for works to overrun in the event of adverse weather. The roadworks^[3] will result in closures between 7pm to 6am the following morning.

The junction between Church Street West and Victoria Way will be reinstated, to facilitate the roadworks, and diversion routes will be in place. The improvements are expected to be fully completed by October, which is expected to provide road users with improved surfaces, pedestrian^[5] crossings, footpaths and road drainage.

Woking road closures in August

• Friday, August 11: Victoria Way northbound will be shut towards the Forge End junction towards the Lockfield Drive junction, which will also be closed, from 7pm to 6am the following morning.

• Monday, August 14: Victoria Way northbound will be closed towards Victoria Arch, as well as Goldsworth Road junction, from 7pm to 6am the following morning.

• Tuesday, August 15: Victoria Way southbound will close as well as the right-hand turn lane towards Forge End. Lockfield Drive junction will also be shut, from 7pm to 6am the following morning.

• Wednesday, August 16: Victoria Way southbound junction and the High Street to Victoria Arch will close from midnight to 5.30am. Vehicle access to Chapel Street will be permitted.

• Wednesday, August 16 to Friday, August 18: Forge End will close and so will Church Street West, the closure will be between Forge End and Victoria Way, each night from 7pm to 6am each following morning.

• Monday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 22: Forge End and Church Street West will close each night at 7pm, the road will be closed between Forge End and Victoria Way until 6am the next day.
