M5 lorry driver faces trial after trailer hit overhead gantry

A lorry driver faces trial after his trailer struck an overhead gantry on the M5 – which resulted in the motorway closing for hours.

Anthony Baker, of Downend, Bristol, was charged with dangerous driving following the collision on the motorway near Bristol on March 2.[1]

The tipper trailer of the vehicle became wedged beneath an overhead gantry near Junction 17 at Cribbs Causeway. Baker, 47 of Garnett Place, appeared before Bristol Crown Court today (Thursday, August 17).

He was released on bail and is next due to appear at the court for a further case management hearing on May 24 next year. Judge Michael Cullum pencilled in a trial lasting up to three days starting on June 17 next year.
