The lorry reportedly overturned on the coastbound carriageway.

The London bound carriageway was closed between Junction 7 for Maidstone and Junction 5 for Aylesford, but has since reopened.

The coastbound carriageway was closed between Junction 4 and Junction 5, and will remain closed overnight.

National Highways say there is significant damage to the road surface which requires resurfacing work, and diversions will be in place.

Following the crash, police and paramedics attended, as well as five fire engines.

A woman was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

There are currently delays in the surrounding areas as people attempt to divert away, with traffic building on the nearby A20.

There is also slow moving traffic between Junction 1 of the A2 (Strood) and Junction 3 (Maidstone) coastbound.

National Highways expect the incident to be ongoing for “some time.”
