M1 in Derbyshire partially blocked for an hour as police called to crash

Three lanes were closed on the northbound carriageway of the M1 in Derbyshire[1] following a collision on Sunday afternoon.

Traffic information company Inrix said that three of four lanes were blocked between junctions 28, for Alfreton, and 29, for Chesterfield[2] due to the incident at about 2.45pm and, as a result, there was queuing traffic.

A post on X, formerly known as Twitter, from National Highways East Midlands also confirmed there were delays of 20 minutes because of the lane closures. It said: “Three (of four) lanes are closed on the M1 in Derbyshire northbound between J28 and J29 due to a collision. Derbyshire Police[3] are in attendance. Delays of 20 minutes above normal travel times, please allow extra time for your journey. Thank you for your patience.”

Images seen from motorway traffic cameras at 3.15pm showed a slow stream of traffic near to where the incident had taken place. It is not known if anyone has been injured or how many vehicles were involved in the incident.

All lanes were reopened by about 3.45pm.
