Lorry driver faces trial after tipper truck hit gantry on M5

A driver faces trial after a tipper lorry crashed into an M5 gantry, shutting the motorway for hours. Anthony Baker was charged with dangerous driving following the collision on the motorway[1] near Bristol on March 2.

The tipper lorry was wedged beneath an overhead gantry near Junction 17 at Cribbs Causeway. Baker, 47 of Garnett Place in Downend[2], appeared before Bristol Crown Court[3] today (Thursday, August 17).

He was released on bail and is next due to appear at the court for a further case management hearing on May 24 next year. Judge Michael Cullum pencilled in a trial lasting up to three days starting on June 17 next year.
