M2 carriageway closed for repairs after lorry fire – updates
The M2 in Kent is closed this evening (Wednesday) eastbound due to a lorry fire. Earlier there were closures in place in both directions between J5 and J6.
The incident took place on the eastbound carriageway. The severity of the blaze caused westbound to be shut also, but it has since reopened.
As the eastbound carriageway remains closed for repairs, eastbound traffic has been advised to follow the solid circle symbol. The incident was first reported at 2.50pm.
National Highways has asked drivers to allow extra time for their journey.
It said tonight: "The M2 in Kent is closed eastbound between J5 and J6 following an earlier vehicle fire. The carriageway remains closed for recovery and clean up operations.
"Please note - The westbound carriageway was also closed due to the severity of the fire however, westbound has now re-opened between J6 and J5."
KentLive will be providing more details about the incident as details become available in the blog below.
